Georgia Hunting and Fishing Federation Legislative Update
SB 474 passed the senate today with a vote of 47-0 it is now on the way to the governor’s desk. HB 1000 was amended to SB 474 and this enabled GHFF to achieve several goals that we had set for this year. You can read it on the Georgia General Assembly website. The dog training restriction was removed from this bill and the bear limit was raised to 2 bears.
I want to think everyone that made calls and sent emails on this bill. Without your help it would have been very difficult to change this bill.
We were also able to stop HB 1153 the animal cruelty bill. GHFF does not condone cruelty to animals but we have be very careful with this type of bill to be sure it does not affect hunting , competition, farming practices, kennels and pet owners in general. This bill was a danger to all of these.
GHFF will have a seat at the table this summer working with WRD on drafting bear dog training regulations and we look forward to working with other organizations in drafting an animal cruelty bill that you can support.
From my point of view the Georgia Sportsmen had a good session, we never lost anything and we gained a little by combining the two bills.
Thanks for supporting GHFF

2009 Georgia Hunting & Fishing Federation
Legislative Wrap Up
What a session for the GHFF. We were able to pass the hunting with a light bill, move billboards further along than ever before, stop the tag bill from taking money out of Georgia, and the highest achievement was restoring funding in the budget for WMA lands.
This has been an incredible achievement for our organization. GHFF is the hunting and fishing organization at the Capitol. The effort of our members and friends to reach out and contact the legislative members was a tremendous success. All should be very proud!!!
